Ticonderoga Publications was founded in 1996 by Russell B. Farr. TP made its name specialising in quality limited edition runs of short story collections. Between 1996–1999 TP produced six books: four short story collections of greater than 65,000 words; and two chapbooks of approximately 20,000 words.

Following an exceptionally productive year in 1999 where Ticonderoga published the collections New Adventures in Sci-Fi by Sean Williams, The Lady of Situations by Stephen Dedman, as well as involvement in MP Books' Antique Futures: The best of Terry Dowling, TP went into a 6 year hiatus as the editor concentrated other efforts, including the online publishing venture TiconderogaOnline.

In 2005 Ticonderoga announced the end of the hiatus with two scheduled projects: a new Simon Brown collection in April 2006 and an original anthology scheduled for release in March 2007.
