Submission Guidelines
Fiction
Orb is looking for original Australian speculative fiction, fantasy, magical realism and non-realist fiction. Short stories are expected. Length: up to 15,000 words. Payment: A$30 per item. We strongly advise you to obtain a copy of the magazine or similar journal to acquaint yourself with the genre. The speculative aspect of the story must be integral to its plot and characters, must be a fresh look at the concept, the 'science' must be convincing, if not accurate, and the 'surprise ending' new.
Non Fiction and Other Forms of Fiction
Reviews, interviews and opinion pieces are welcome to 5,000 words. These will be published, on acceptance, on the website. Pieces must be related to speculative fiction, personnel, events, publishing and news. Experimental pieces and poetry may be considered if the format and approach is essential to the content.
What to Send With Your Manuscript.
· A very short cover letter that does not try to “explain” the work
· An SSAE (return postage on a selfaddressed envelope)
· Word count of manuscript.
Artwork
Orb welcomes full cover artwork or b&w graphics for internals. Small pieces, icons or cartoons are also accepted. Never send originals — only photocopies.
What I Like to Read.
· A hard copy, typed on one A4 side
· Double line spaced (not 1˝)
. In standard font (I love Courier)
· In 12 point
· Justified left
· On consecutively numbered pages
· With a header on every page
(a shortened title and name).
