About Altair-Australia Literary Agency

Altair-Australia Literary Agency was established in 1997 to help support the writing of new and lesser-known writers in the field of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Later, after some success with the work of Tony Shillitoe and Kurt von Trojan, Robert N Stephenson, expanded the agency to include all genres with SF and Fantasy being the specialty. Altair-Agency now represents writers in the field of Children's Literature, Main-stream Literature, Crime and Mystery and Action/Adventure fiction. Non-fiction is a new area Altair-Australia Agency is considering expanding into in the near future. Non-fiction material may be considered if queried first.

About Robert N Stephenson

Robert N Stephenson is a writer of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Literary Fiction. His published work has appeared in magazines around the world and can sometimes be found on the Internet. For the last four years he has edited the highly regarded Altair Magazine (publishing work by Arthur C Clarke, David Brin, Stanislaw Lem. Joe Haldeman, Robert J Sawyer, Kelly Link and many, many more). Robert has operated as an agent for the last seven years. His time has mainly been spent establishing a decent author list and himself as a reliable agent with high quality material for sale. Writers on his list include Tony Shillitoe, Kurt von Trojan, Sue Isle, Steven Cooper, J H Fletcher (International rights), Bill Green, Gail Meritt. Robert has also edited many published fiction novels for SidHarta Publishers and independantly; two of these books, 'Leathers' by Donna Gardner and 'Indonesian Gold' by Kerry Collison have gone on to become best sellers in Australia. In an effort to help new writers achieve publishing results faster he tutors for The Australian College of Journalism in Sydney, with close to 200 students the work can be a little overwhelming at times. Recently he has been given his own imprint by Magellan Books, Altair Australia Books - the name taken directly from his own company so as not to create too many linked names. Robert hope to publish an ecclectic mix of fiction short works and non fiction in the genre of Science Fiction and Fantasy. www.altair-australia.com/altair is the link to this imprint. Though extremely busy Robert trys to stay in daily contact with the publishing industry and new writers. Recent sales include a four book series to Harper Collins Australia and a filom script.

Fees and Charges

Altair-Australia Literary Agency is a non-fee charging agency, which receives payment through its 15% - 20% royalty on author sales. Note: All editing, proofing and manuscript preparation is performed free of charge to represented writers. If extra charges do arise they will be discussed and negotiated with the author before being implemented. Altair-Australia Literary Agency is now gaining market recognition for its high quality writers and submitted material. In the New Year you will be hearing from some of these writers and their exceptional novels.

Contracts

Contracts with Altair-Literary Agency usually run for 12 - 18 months. Please review the sample contract before submitting any material for consideration.

Submissions

Submit the first three chapters (up to 15,000 words) and a two page synopsis for fiction/novel. Send whole manuscript plus reference details for non-fiction. All submissions to be double spaced, on one side of the paper and in an easy to read font (Times New Roman, New Courier etc) Do not use special fonts for highlighting text. Underline relevant text and attach a note if necessary. For non-fiction material with graphics do not include original graphics, films or photographs. If possible have the ms roughly laid out with graphic representations in place of actual graphics. PageMaker or Quark is good for this but a simple layout can be performed in word.
